Absolute Credibilty

An opportunity to get out of the office, travel and meet people drew David Hills into a career as a sales rep, but he didn’t count on spending much of his days driving up and down motorways. “I wanted a role which allowed me the same satisfaction in getting out there and building professional relationships, but working for myself and without slogging my way through the motorway system every day,” he reflects.

“My father had owned two franchises in his life, so I was well aware of the benefits of investing in one as opposed to starting up on my own, and began looking at the opportunities available.”

David’s search took two years, culminating in a visit to the National Franchise Expo in 2002. “I spent the whole day there and stepped onto Snack-In-The-Box’s stand at the end of the day,” he recalls. “There was so much interest in them that I had to wait 20 minutes before anyone was free to talk to me.” SITB also had a wait on their hands as David entered a long deliberation period. “I took four months to investigate SITB,” he reports. “They were absolutely brilliant with me though - they followed up with me on my interest, but not at any point did I feel under pressure. In the end, the relationship with Cadbury made my decision - when you’re offering a product from a brand that’s been established for nearly a couple of centuries, you instantly attain absolute credibility when dealing with potential customers.”
